Since the establishment of our Crete taverna in 1961, when the vast majority of our customers consisted of fishermen and workers from the local area, many alterations have been made. Some things, however, have remained unchanged. Zepos prides itself on providing not only exceptional service, but also the best quality food that Crete has to offer. A quality that doesn’t come only from the pure, fresh and local ingredients but also from the utmost care and respect for the recipes that we have inherited through the centuries.
In our menu you will find an array of fresh catches of the day, traditional, home-cooked Cretan food and also other contemporary Greek dishes that can be accompanied with wild greens, local cheeses, home-baked bread, meat pies and a carefully chosen selection of local draft wine produced from our vineyards. Also our food is prepared solely with extra virgin olive oil which is produced by our own olive groves. Besides the opportunity to experience authentic Cretan food, Zepos takes you back to the 18th century with its building, which presents a confluence of many architectural features from various eras, with the Venetian and the Greek folklore architectural elements of that century being the most prominent ones. Coming to Chania, we want your expectations for great food and service to be fulfilled. And Zepos is the restaurant to do so. Located in the Venetian harbour, Zepos is not only offering great food and service but a breathtaking view of Chania’s lighthouse.
Zepos was a tavern existing since 1961, attracting mostly local fishermen and workers. In 1975 the tavern shifted to a restaurant run by Christos Paraskevakis, our father and grandpa. Christos and Ioanna, our mother, made the restaurant a landmark for our town. Locals and tourists from all around the world would enjoy food prepared with love by our mother with the freshest ingredients our father had handpicked the same day or grew on his own.
That love for quality food past through the generations. When Litsa Paraskevaki took over Zepos, the exclusive traditional menu became more universal. But one thing stayed the same, all our dishes are prepared with ingredients hand-picked by us and enriched with extra virgin olive oil produced from our trees.
Our menu includes many traditional Cretan dishes as well as a selection of European flavors. Every year new dishes make their appearance, prepared by our chef Vasilis Sikalias who is constantly on the outlook for new techniques and ways to highlight our traditional ingredients in new recipes. Recipes that can be accompanied by selected wines from all around Crete and Greece giving you the full tasting experience.
